Questions and Answers about hiring a DJ.

If you are reading this, you have probably never hired a DJ before. We get asked a lot of the same questions every day by clients so we thought we would answer a lot of them online and have them available for people planning an event with a DJ.
How much experience do your DJs have?
All of the DJs who work for the Keith Christopher Entertainment Group have a minimum of 5 years professional DJing experience, with most of our DJs having 10 or more years of professional DJing experience.
What type of equipment does your company use?
Some of the brand names that you may recognize include Pioneer, JBL, Shure, Denon, and Apple to name but a few. We only use top of the line professional DJ equipment. We also carry back up equipment in the extremely rare case of an emergency.
What kind of back up plan do you have for staffing in case of an emergency?
We always retain emergency staffing every weekend as a backup in the event of an emergency. We have never missed an event in our company history.
Will the DJ take and play our guests requests?
We love making people happy and playing requests always makes people happy. Our DJs do take requests and may play some of them. Our DJs “filter” requests, meaning they will not play a song that you specifically asked the DJ not to play or music from a genre you asked the DJ not to play. If someone makes a request that fits in well with what the DJ is playing at the time and with the music the client wants, then the DJ may play the request.
How much input will we have with the music played on our wedding day?
You are able to pick which songs you definitely want to hear, and ones you do not want to hear, for your event. We have an online planning system which has in part, our music planner where you can make your song lists.
What are your payment terms?
The deposit is required at the time of booking and the remaining balance is due 45 days prior to the event date. We accept checks, credit cards, and cash for payment. Payments can be easily made through our online planning system using a debit or credit card or PayPal account.
Do we need to tip our DJ?
We do not include gratuity in the final contract price. 10 – 20% is generally recommended if your DJ did a great job, but it is entirely up to you.
Will the DJ play overtime if needed?
Yes, DJs are able to play past the contracted time only if it has cleared with the reception venue.
When should we book our DJ?
A good time frame is at least six months before the event. However, we have DJs available for last minute events as well.
Should we include the DJ for dinner?
This is not required in our contract and is completely up to you. Typically, the catering director or event coordinator will set aside a meal or boxed dinner for the DJ if requested by the client.
What other services do you offer?
We offer DJ services for weddings (ceremony and reception) and events in addition to lighting (Up lighting & Dance Floor Lighting). We also have Photo Booths available. Our pdf clearly shows all of the bells and whistles that we offer.
How many songs should I request?
You can select songs you would like to hear and more importantly dance to, as well as ones you do not want at your wedding. We would like you to give your DJ 10-15 of your favorites, as well as songs/artists you don’t, so your DJ has an idea of what music you’d like for the different parts of the evening. We will play any kind of music you would like and will not play anything that is on your Do Not Play list. During your detail meeting before your wedding, your DJ will ask about your music preferences.
